Report: Chelsea make offer for World Cup winner Mourinho called best in the world

Real Madrid have reportedly received an offer from Chelsea for the potential transfer of Raphael Varane this summer.

According to ABC, the Blues are in talks with Madrid to remove Varane from the Spanish capital.

Madrid president Florentino Perez said in an interview with Onda Cero that he had not accepted any offers, but it could simply be a distraction technique.

There is no indication that a new deal will be signed, which has put many clubs on high alert.

Chelsea apparently threw their hat in the ring, alongside Manchester United.

Va-va-voom Varane

It’s no surprise that Varane is wanted by two of the Premier League’s giants.

His CV is one of the best in modern football.

He played 360 times for Madrid, winning four Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles en route.

Add to that a World Cup winner’s medal with France and Varane’s trophy cabinet is to be envied.

Contacts in Chelsea

Roman Abramovich might want to take advantage of Varane’s ties to Stamford Bridge as part of his luring process.

Current teammate of former Blues stars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, the Frenchman has also worked under José Mourinho in Spain.

“I think Varane is the best center-back in the world,” Mourinho said in an interview with Yahoo in 2014.

N’Golo Kanté, Kurt Zouma and Olivier Giroud are also colleagues at the international level.

Tie all of those ties together, as well as the defender’s apparent desire to leave Madrid, and Chelsea could be on a winner.
