Is James Hewitt’s REAL father Prince Harry? Princess Diana’s lover opens up on wild rumor

Princess Diana’s lover has been confronted with the vicious claim that Prince Charles is not the father of the Duke of Sussex, but that the former army captain is.

Last week, Daily Star Online revealed a stunning new image of Harry that may finally put the never-ending question to bed.

The photo of Harry, during his tour with Meghan Markle in Australia, looked set to put a barrier against the flood of speculation.

It showed Harry sporting a military uniform that looked exactly like that of his grandfather, Prince Philip, 61 years ago.

Royal fans screamed in shock at the likeness, dubbing the pair “doppelgängers” and saying “it’s crazy how alike they look.”

But despite the obvious similarities – Daily Star Online has found that many still refuse to be convinced that Hewitt is not the father.

Reacting to the new image, a few of those pushy royal fans tweeted “he looks more like James Hewitt, his father” and “he looks like James Hewitt too”.

Their belief is often fueled by the fact that the pair wear red hair and apparently have similar facial features.

Yet Hewitt, a former cavalry officer, didn’t begin his secret affair with Diana until 1986 – two years after Harry was born.

And Harry’s Uncle Charles, Earl Spencer – Diana’s brother – has red hair himself.

But just last year, Hewitt, having already faced the rumor in 2002, once again spoke out about the bizarre theory in a final attempt to end that claim.

He was appearing on an Australian Sunday night channel when asked directly if he was Prince Harry’s father.

Hewitt replied bluntly in the filmed interview, which later went viral: “No, I’m not.”

Then, when asked why the rumors were still getting out of hand, he showered his sympathy on Harry and said, “It sells papers. It’s probably worse for him, probably, poor guy.”

Yet, against all odds, his denial ended up fueling conspiracy theory as the rumor went into overdrive.

SIMILARITY: Another comparison is that Hewitt spent time in the military, as did Harry (Pic: GETTY)

It was also despite his previous attempt to quash the allegations, when he said in 2002: “There really is no possibility that I am Harry’s father.

“I can absolutely assure you that I am not.”

He told the Sunday Mirror how Harry was “already walking” by the time his relationship with Diana began.

He said: “Certainly red hair is similar to mine and people say we are alike.

“I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I have been with Diana for a long time, I must declare once and for all that I am not Harry’s father.

“When I met Diana he was already a toddler.”

As rumors continued, Diana’s former police bodyguard Ken Wharfe once attempted to stop the allegations, revealing how gossip used to ‘anger’ the princess.

He said in his book: “The malicious rumors that persist about Prince Harry’s fatherhood used to make Diana very angry.

“The nonsense should be taped here and now.

“Harry was born on September 15, 1984.

“Diana didn’t meet James until the summer of 1986, and the red hair, the gossip that I love to cite as proof is, of course, a trait of Spencer.”
