Is Godfall coming to Xbox? Latest news on the exclusive PS5 release date
Godfall, the latest addition to Gearbox Publishing’s new Counterplay Games studio, was announced at the 2019 Game Awards as the first game to be confirmed for PlayStation 5 release.
This high fantasy action RPG is described as a ‘looter-slasher’, which we imagine means it will take inspiration from Destiny and Diablo.
While the trailer was booked with the PS5 logo, its closeness to the Xbox Series X announcement on the same show led to the inevitable question: is the game coming to Xbox Series X?
Is Godfall coming to Xbox Series X?
Reply: At the time of writing, no, Godfall is not coming to Xbox One or Xbox Series X. The game is believed to be a console exclusive for PlayStation. That being said, it’s not clear whether Godfall is a “ timed exclusive ” or a permanent exclusive. Assuming the game is a timed exclusive, it’s possible that it will arrive on Xbox in the future.
It seems more likely when you factor in that the game is also available on PC through the Epic Games Store and launched with the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
As we mentioned before, the PS5 logo appearing in the reveal trailer suggests that it will be an exclusive, but other titles have done the same in this console generation – although they are available on PlayStation. 4 and Xbox One at a later date. .
Famously, the original Destiny was marketed as being for the PlayStation 4 due to a deal with Sony – but launched on the same date in 2014 on the Xbox One.
It’s hard to say if Godfall could do the same, but given that this is the first game confirmed for Sony’s new platform, we’d be surprised if it wasn’t at least a timed exclusivity.
It’s also worth noting that the game is coming to Windows, probably also this year. So there is an argument to be made, after all, that this is a Microsoft platform.
For what it’s worth, Gearbox Publishing recently released Rick and Morty’s Trover Saves The Universe, creator Justin Roiland, Squanch Games – and this game launched on PlayStation 4 and PC before finally making the jump to Xbox One and Switch.
We might not know much about this melee-focused RPG, but we got to see a glimpse of it in action. The awesome trailer has reportedly been leaked.
If you think this looks good (above) then keep your hat off – the developers Counterplay Games have not only confirmed that the footage is from Godfall (and not an incredibly committed mock soundtrack), but that ‘they come from an internal presentation running on PC and are one year old.
The developers tweeted “Hi everyone! We can confirm that the trailer in circulation is a year old PC footage used as part of an internal presentation. We are fueled by your enthusiasm and can’t wait to show you how far this game has come. Stay tuned for a more detailed rundown soon! “
If it already looks so good, we can’t wait to see how it turns out ahead of release towards the end of this year, and as big Destiny fans, we can’t wait to see how the looting rush of new equipment could translate into a game focused on hand-to-hand combat.
